Fish Bone Meal (4-14-0) is a safe source of organic Phosphorous and a little nitrogen along with calcium and other trace minerals. Fish bone meal helps root development which makes it an ideal amendment for establishing new growth and transplanting. Fish bone meal can be used all season long to replenish the soil as plants feed, and is ideal for carrots, potatoes and all root vegetables!
Suggested application:
2-3 pounds for every 100 square feet of growing area, or per cubic yard of soil, or 1/4-1/2 a cup per gallon of soil for containers. Add 1-2 tablespoons per gallon of soil for new container gardens and potted plants.
As a side dressing, scratch 2-3 tablespoons into the soil per plant month throughout growing season. Water thoroughly after application.
Fish Bone Meal is not water soluble and not a recommended additive for compost tea.

COVERAGE CALCULATOR
Soilutions products are sold in bulk quantities measured by the cubic yard (3’x3’x3’). Our handy coverage calculator will help you easily figure out how much compost, soil, or mulch you need for a successful project.
There are two easy ways to visualize a cubic yard:
- One cubic yard will generally fill the back of a standard sized pick up truck bed.
- One cubic yard is equivalent to about 27 standard sized soil bags (1 cubic ft) that you would find at a nursery or home improvement store.
How to Use Coverage Calculator:
- Start by measuring the area you want to cover. To calculate square footage, multiply width and length of your project area (Length (feet) x width (feet) = square footage). Enter that information into the Coverage Calculator.
- If you know your required depth, enter it into the Coverage Calculator
- Most customers choose to round up if they are in between numbers. There is nearly always a use for a little extra soil, compost or mulch in any landscape or garden.
