Our high-desert climate brings intense sun, drying winds, alkaline soils, and low humidity. While many parts of the country enjoy naturally rich soils, much of New Mexico's native soil lacks the balance of organic matter and soil structure needed for productive gardens.

That's why we create living soils—complete soil blends designed to give plants everything they need to establish strong roots and thrive.

Rather than asking gardeners to buy multiple amendments and mix them together themselves, we've already done the work for you.

Local Ingredients Matter

Whenever possible, we source our ingredients locally or regionally.

Not only does this reduce transportation impacts and support New Mexico's economy, but it also means our compost and soil are built around the biology already adapted to our high-desert environment.

Our staff Master Gardener often explains it this way:

Soilutions Compost

Our compost is the foundation of every soil we make.

Produced at our yard in South Valley, it's made from recycled food waste, tree and landscape trimmings, and forest restoration materials—never biosolids and never manure.

The result is compost that's rich in organic matter and teeming with beneficial microbial life that helps build healthier soil over time.

Native Sandy Loam

Healthy soil isn't just organic matter.

Mineral soil provides structure, drainage, and a reservoir for nutrients.

Our native sandy loam comes from local quarries in New Mexico and contain a natural balance of sand, silt, and clay to support healthy root growth.

Coco Coir

We use coco coir as a sustainable alternative to peat moss.

It improves soil structure, increases water-holding capacity, and creates pore spaces that allow roots to breathe while still maintaining excellent drainage.

Our coco coir is sourced from Mexico, keeping transportation distances as short as possible.

New Mexico Pumice

Pumice is a naturally porous volcanic rock mined in northern New Mexico.

It creates permanent air pockets within the soil, improving drainage and preventing compaction while helping roots access both oxygen and water.

Unlike perlite, pumice won't float to the surface over time and is a durable, natural component of living soil.
