Take a Tour of Soilutions

Come See Where the Magic Happens!

Ever wonder what happens to food scraps, yard waste, and woody materials after they arrive at Soilutions? You might be surprised at how we turn what others throw away into something wonderful!

Join us for a behind-the-scenes walking tour of Soilutions’ 14-acre compost manufacturing facility in Albuquerque’s South Valley. You'll get an up-close look at how we transform organic waste into nutrient-rich compost, soil, and mulch products that help New Mexico's landscapes and gardens thrive.

If you've ever tried composting at home, you're in for a treat! Discover how commercial composting differs from backyard composting and what it takes to manage the process on a much larger scale. From massive compost piles and heavy equipment to the science behind turning organic waste into healthy soil, there's plenty to see—even for seasoned composting enthusiasts!

Plan on approximately one hour for your tour, including plenty of time to ask questions, learn about our process, and discover how we're giving valuable resources a second life.

Whether you're an avid gardener, student, educator, or simply curious about sustainability, we invite you to come see what happens at New Mexico's largest compost company.

We think you'll leave with a whole new appreciation for what goes into making great soil!

What to Know Before you Visit

Our 14-acre facility is active and the tour follows outdoor walking routes over uneven, unpaved terrain. Wear comfortable, weather appropriate clothing and sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Safety vests will be provided for you to wear during your tour.

Accessibility Notice: Because of the terrain and industrial nature of the facility, walking tours are not currently wheelchair accessible.

Visitor Guidelines

Because our facility is an active composting and recycling operation, we've established a few guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

  • Age Requirement: For safety reasons, tours are designed for visitors ages 12 and older.
  • Strollers: Our tours take place outdoors on uneven terrain, including gravel and unpaved surfaces, making the facility unsuitable for strollers.
  • Pets: We love our furry friends, but for everyone's safety, please leave pets at home. Service animals are welcome in accordance with applicable laws and safety requirements.

Thank you for helping us keep our tours safe, educational, and enjoyable for all!

Why We Operate Tours

At Soilutions, we believe that understanding where our soil comes from is just as important as understanding where our food comes from. By opening our doors to the community, we hope to inspire a greater appreciation for composting, recycling, and the important role healthy soil plays in our environment. Come see firsthand how we're turning New Mexico's organic waste into a valuable resource for our gardens, landscapes, and communities.
