Soilutions Compost is a nutrient blast for your yard and garden! Prized by local farmers and gardeners for 25 years, Soilutions compost is what built our reputation for quality and value. Soilutions Compost is comprised of curated local inputs including greenwaste and foodwaste and screened to 1/2 inch. Soilutions compost is New Mexico's #1 choice for building healthy, sustainable & regenerative soil!
Adding compost to your yard is the first step toward building a healthy garden. Compost is a soil conditioner used to amend native soil by adding organic matter and crucial microbiology. Compost improves plant growth, conserves water and builds healthier soil in your yard and garden.
New Mexico has several types of native soil, from very sandy to heavy clay. Compost is the perfect amendment for any soil type: it helps sandy soils build structure to retain water and reduces compaction in hard clay soils allowing better aeration and root growth.
COVERAGE CALCULATOR
Soilutions products are sold in bulk quantities measured by the cubic yard (3’x3’x3’). Our handy coverage calculator will help you easily figure out how much compost, soil, or mulch you need for a successful project.
There are two easy ways to visualize a cubic yard:
- One cubic yard will generally fill the back of a standard sized pick up truck bed.
- One cubic yard is equivalent to about 27 standard sized soil bags (1 cubic ft) that you would find at a nursery or home improvement store.
How to Use Coverage Calculator:
- Start by measuring the area you want to cover. To calculate square footage, multiply width and length of your project area (Length (feet) x width (feet) = square footage). Enter that information into the Coverage Calculator.
- If you know your required depth, enter it into the Coverage Calculator
- Most customers choose to round up if they are in between numbers. There is nearly always a use for a little extra soil, compost or mulch in any landscape or garden.

HOW TO USE
"Compost is the perfect amendment for any soil type you find in New Mexico: it helps sandy soils retain water and reduces compaction in hard clay soils. Use anywhere and everywhere that you have dirt and want plants to grow.
How to Use:
- Add 2-4"" layer on the surface of existing soil to replenish depleted nutrients. Lightly mix with native (existing) soil to ensure your entire planting area is receiving the nutrients and aeration your plants need to thrive. Can be used in raised beds, pots or in-ground plants.
- Add a 2-3"" layer on top of native soil and till (mix) it in before putting down sod or grass seed for a lawn.
- Add approximately the same amount of Soilutions Compost as native soil (50/50 blend) in a planting hole when planting trees, shrubs, perennials or annuals.
- Do not plant directly into Soilutions Compost, as it is too rich in organic material for your plants to survive. Soilutions Compost should be used as an amendment and mixed with soils. Enriched Topsoil or Premium Garden Soil are full soils that incorporate Soilutions Compost for you and can be planted into directly. "
