You have a large pile of fresh Soilutions Compost or soil delivered in driveway...now what? 

Soilutions products are 100% natural, which means you need to do a few things differently than if you were using standard potting mixes or soils that contain chemical additives and preservatives.

How to Care for Your Soilutions Compost & Soil

STEP 1: Transport Your Compost/Soil to Your Planting Area ASAP

In order to maintain ideal moisture levels, we recommend placing your compost/soil in the area you intend to grow in within 24-72 hours after receiving your order. If you are unable to work with your product right away, please make sure to keep it moist by spraying the pile with water daily and keeping it covered with a tarp.

STEP 2: Water your compost and soil frequently.

Water your soil as often as you would your plants, even if there are no plants growing in it yet! In the spring, this water 3-4x per week, and in the summer water every day.  

STEP 3: Rest the Soil – Don’t plant for at least 3 days!

The process of moving soil into your final planting area adds oxygen, this reinvigorates the microorganisms in living soil and can cause the soil to heat up temporarily. Letting your soil rest for a few days before you seed or transplant into it will allow for the microorganisms to settle and the temperature to stabilize.

Step 3: Add Mulch

Once the plants in your garden are 3 inches tall, add a 2-4” layer of mulch around your sprouts to protect your soil and plants. In our hot, arid environment, mulch is an essential tool to retain water, suppress weeds, add nutrients and beautify your garden. Soilutions' Forest Floor mulch is a great choice as it contains 10% compost to help keep your soil full of living organic matter all season long!
