Coco coir is shredded coconut pith, or husk, of the coconut. Coco coir is a nutrient free, neutral substrate used on its own for root structure and stabilization in soil-less growing practices, but it is also amazing for amending soil to improve soil tilth, moisture retention, aeration and to reduce compaction. Long thought of as a waste product, coconut coir is now widely used as a sustainable alternative to peat moss in potting soil, nurseries and commercial indoor agriculture, as well as land restoration projects in clay heavy and arid environments.  Coco coir can retain up to 8 times its volume in water when used in soils, making it the perfect soil amendment to help reduce water use.

Our coco coir blocks come unwrapped or 'naked' and non uniform, though they weigh between 10-12 pounds, and will expand to approximately 2.5 cubic feet.  Mix with compost and pumice as a base for potting soil or to fluff up your compacted beds, or use as a seasonal mulch that will help build your soil year after year.

Directions:

Submerge block in water and let sit- just like those magic sponges we all love.  Compressed block will slowly absorb water and expand, breaking themselves up as they go.  Speed up the process by breaking the blocks up by hand or with a garden spade as they absorb water. Drain excess water.

Bulk is better

Less packaging energy and less shipping energy intuitively is a lower carbon footprint. The truth of how much plant material is put into the great circle of life by the folks at SOILUTIONS is a blessing to all of us. Especially those of us in central New Mexico.

Seems all is right with how this business serves the planet.
